In 2008, philosophy students Mathieu and Olivier decided to drop out of university to start their men’s clothing line: Melinda Gloss. Named ironically after the nickname of one of their friends in Shanghai, Melinda Gloss brings good pieces inspired by other creative domains like classic cinema, made with natural fabrics and local know-how, and entirely in Paris, Limoges, Venice, and Porto. Four years after the opening of their first boutique in le Marais and private projections co-organized with Carlotta Films, they recently opened a second boutique at 9 rue Madame in Saint Germain des Près. We met Mathieu to know his favorite spots.

It’s a real cliché, but hyped PMUs–located in Saint Germain in areas that are a bit avoided by the fashion crowd, and more established in the right bank. That’s too bad, because the left bank is not only populated by gentrified intellectuals of the 60’s but there is also a dynamic youth living there.

It used to be le Bacci, which was a somewhat tacky Italian restaurant–now it serves great French food. Perfect for lunch to break up a long session of shopping or for diner upstairs. It’s kind of an insider place, where the people know each other. I recommend the steak Chateaubriand.

Japanese with no pretensions, with food of incredible quality. (And if you finish diner after 10pm, it’s just across from Le Soleil Levant, a Chinese massage parlor that’s a bit shady but not without charm–not a brothel but close…)
