img_6189Patrick Pearse’s experimental feature film, “The Misfortunes of François Jane,” starring Pierre Cevaer and Mathilde Ollivier, celebrated its world premiere at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris on September 28th.   The film deconstructs the breakup of a delusional couple in a series of tableaux viviants rooted in the genres of pantomime and silent expressionist cinema. Set mainly in Paris devoid of pedestrian or vehicular traffic, the film plays as a dream on the edge of nightmare.

Guests arrived in a hazy blue auditorium where composer Graz Mulchay played a trio of Tibetan singing bowls to set the mood somewhere deep under water.  Pearse and his team set out to show how a film could be launched by breaking away from classical models and making a direct appeal to its audience of culturally-attuned fashion forward thinking people and influencers.

The film will now be shown at the Galerie Le Ballon Rouge in Paris throughout the month of October with an opening reception on Monday 3rd October with the director and cast in attendance.
