The Forty Deuce by Bill Butterworth

In the early 80’s, the 42nd street in New York, also known as Times Square, was crowded with gangsters, bad boys, hookers and young hustlers from the sex entertainment industry.

Don’t feel nostalgic. The photographer Bill Butterworth shot them all on 70mm films, in places far from the sort of Disneyland-like square we know of today. Rouge58 gallery currently features thirteen of these unique photographs, which is quite exceptional since the negatives weren’t published until 2011.

All this was celebrated during a friendly and successful opening.

If you need one more reason to pay a visit, note that it is one of the only places in Paris where you can taste “Oslo Coffee”, which beans are directly imported from Brooklyn, NY!
