The chef with the best table in town has a tapas bar, too
Iñaki Aizpitarte, celebrated Basque chef of bistro-nomic temple Le Chateaubriand, continues to reinvent haute cuisine in a relaxed setting with a small and intimate wine/tapas bar located next door to the original restaurant. At Le Dauphin, artist types mingle with the after-work crowd in a casual and cool environment. The restaurant’s stark marble interior puts the right light on its well-dressed plates and well-dressed regulars, seen lingering around the central counter hoping to snag a coveted seat during the later, no-reservations-required seating. Sample the bar’s wide selection of natural wines (many priced at just 5 euros a glass) before the arrival of a parade of small bites, each one a delicate blend of the kitchen’s inspired techniques and the finest ingredients: wagyu beef, wild mushrooms, squid ink, smoked mozzarella, buttermilk ice cream. Excellent tapas between 5-10 euros. Advice from Ten Days in Paris: reserve in advance.
