Cocktail bar in South Pigalle

Another great new reason to hang out in the South Pigalle area. Le Carmen—formerly le Cafe Carmen— is now managed by Cherry Bibi (Djette at le Coste and creator of the brand Evelyn Paris 9eme) and connected with the guys from la Clique, best known for being at the head of le Baron but also for other places in the South Pigalle area: the hotel/restaurant l’Hotel Amour and the club Chez Moune.

First thing that struck us: le Carmen is maybe one of the most beautiful hangouts in Paris, along with le Raspoutine.  Impressive ceiling height, intimate and muffled atmosphere. For the drinks the menu was not printed when we went but, as the barman said, “les cocktails sont à l’honneur”. For us it was champagne cocktails. The direction chose to avoid making a buzz with an opening party. With a program including pianists, djs and performances, they are hoping that word of mouth will work to bring in a mix of people—as it was during the first days of le Baron—and to create a happy mishmash.
