What’s in a hot dog? To be honest, we don’t know, and we don’t really care. All we know is that when it’s cooked up nice and steaming, nestled in a fluffy bun that conforms perfectly to its shape, topped with a pile of pickled white cabbage, sweet green relish and dressed with two squiggly streaks of ketchup and mustard, it’s a mouthful of flavor unlike any other you’ve been getting from the usual Paris street foods. And if the opening of a second Hutch House of Hot Dogs is any indication, Parisians are digging the doggy-style delicacies that are being served up.

Never been to Brooklyn? No problem. Get a hefty slice of cheddar over your dog, and all you need to know is that it’s the neighborhood known for its cheesy New York accent.

If you’re a chili-lover, go for the Manhattan. You’ll need a little comfort food if you ever encounter the cold New Yorker, who makes the stereotypical Parisian seem like a docile puppy in comparison.

The Coney Island will satisfy those with a need for sweet-tasting amusement in the form of an onion confit that goes perfectly with the tangy relish and might encourage hot-dog eating contests with your buddies.

And last but not least, if you’re more of a traditionalist, you can order up the New York with a generous scoop of sauerkraut on top that’s like the American version of choucroute garnie.

If you’re not a dog person, you also have a selection of bagels, fresh-squeezed fruit juices and an ecstasy-inducing dessert spread, including apple crumble, carrot cake, double chocolate cookies, donuts, and decadent muffins, among others. Did we mention the self-serve ice cream machine?

With both locations in the 10th, the Hutch House of Hot Dogs is a convenient snack option before hitting the bars on the Canal or a late-night reprieve from partying, as it’s open til midnight.

It’s a miniscule yet charming spot with red walls and one white that’s covered in abstract illustrations by a laidback Dutch dude and graphic designer named Gino who lives around the corner. You also have the signature toy robot on the edge of the counter with an empty brewski under his arm, one of three bottled Brooklyn Brewery beers you can order to go with your grub.

So skip the sad, generic fast-food alternative of two Knackers and Emmental microwaved in a stale baguette, and hit up Hutch’s for kosher beef from a trusted butcher in Le Marais, pillowy buns and a smattering of authentic condiments to choose from that will leave you panting for more.
