Much of the inspiration for Curse came from the closure of urban gems such as Jackets and Le Pompon, at which the two twisted yet talented expat Americans were regulars–Moore as staff and Hong as client. Vexed by the ridiculous difficulty of sustaining high-energy subterranean venues in the city, giving way, alas, to more and more mechanical clubs and sterile bars, they realized that it was time to improvise–at warp speed. Paris after dark may be unprepared to support the latest hotspots adored by all, but it can’t shut down a pop-up party that’s hither and yon in a flash. Thus cometh “Curse The Night”! To any hip humans aiming for action at any locale, this nimble new company provides all of the amenities that made parties back in the day so manic and memorable.

Last weekend at Red House was a “dry” run in name only, as Moore and Hong launched their first nuclear event, complete with familiar faces, raucous rock, dirty dancing, and, of course, oceans of foam. It seems that those wee-hour, lost-my-breath, where’s my bra, sweaty smiles of yesteryear might be making a comeback, if agile young Parisians are cool enough and quick enough to Curse The Night!
