If you’re going to indulge in some diet-crashing treats in Paris, it’s worth seeking out the good ones. And if you’re a breakfast junkie, you’ll find that and more at Colorova, a promising newcomer with a modern take on the pastry/ salon de thé scene, tucked away in a quiet street of Saint Germain des Prés.

The place is sleek and almost unrecognizable as a pâtisserie from the outside, as there’s no flashy window display of goodies to tease passersby. Inside, it keeps with the “less is more” vibe with pristine white walls, two elegant pastry counters, and modern vintage déco with a homey feel.

Snag a table in the front room to get a peek through the kitchen window, where chef Guillaume Gil is busy crafting a dozen or more variations of creamy, decadent delicacies that give new meaning to the phrase “food orgasm.”

Get your dessert fix in the morning with the breakfast menu or go for lunch and opt for savory tartes, salads or sandwiches. We tested the weekend brunch (reservations recommended), and it was a flavorful and indeed colorful succession of finely presented dishes that were filling without being too heavy, including fromage blanc with apple-peach compote, creamy celery soup topped with carmine, cubed ham and comté cheese, and a light vegetable and chicken spring roll nestled in a pool of bright orange peanut sauce. Add to that the house viennoiseries, assorted breads and confiture, Lov Organic

tea and fresh squeezed orange juice, and you’ll be good and ready for an afternoon recovery nap.
