Bobby Dowler’s works aren’t abstract paintings – they are palpable, material objects meant to incite what he calls ‘art events’. An ‘art event’, he says, is the discovery of a new experience, something ecstatic yet relaxed, something quasi-transcendental like love, or a hallucinogenic drug trip. His striking, riotous use of color elicits an immediate visceral response, and this baseline rapport founded on the viewer’s innocent, unmediated emotional reaction is the surest way to induce the sort of absorbed engagement with the aesthetic object that qualifies as an ‘art event’.
Bobby Dowler’s first solo show in France, Painting-Objects, at 104 Kléber April 16th to April 30th 2015 organised by MAD Agency
