Aldric Speer started his career in Japan, where he began to show proof of his talent working with numerous brands and artists (Comme des Garçons, I-D, Sazaby Group and Banksy, Delta, Geoff Mc Fetridge…). In the late 90’s, he met Jérémie Rozan and founded Surface to Air. By day, the shop represented up and coming designers while also selling rare books and cool contemporary art. By night, they were throwing underground parties. Since 2008, Speer has been the creative director of the Surface to Air brand and is in charge of the men’s collections. He sat down with Paul Mouginot to showcase some of his favorites spots in the city of lights.

1- Le Saint Gervais, 96 rue Vieille du Temple, 3e

This bistro is just a few step away from my apartment. It has remained unchanged and kept authentic over the years. The crowd is diverse, which is becoming rare in this hip neighborhood. Sometimes, this bar can even turn into a little club where people dance and have fun !

I always enjoy chilling on the sunny terrace of this Italian restaurant : the ideal place for a lunch with friends.

3- Institut Suédois, 11 rue Payenne, 3e

As a Scandinavian art and design enthusiast, I visit the museum on a regular basis. My best memory is probably the Svenskt Tenn exhibit last year. There is a quiet, beautiful garden in the back of the building, perfect for the “secret garden” hunters.

4- La Jolie Garde Robe, 15 rue Commines, 3e

In this vintage shop, the selection is always extremely sharp, featuring creations from major couture designers. The prices are sometimes high, but so is the quality of the clothes. If you want to find a unique gift for a woman, don’t go anywhere else !

5- Dansk Møbelkunst, 53 bis, quai des Grands Augustins, 6e

Buying furniture is a thing of pleasure. Buying real Scandinavian furniture is a whole other dimension, and that is what you can experience in this high-key gallery. The pieces are featured both in Paris and in Copenhagen, and are definitely a source of inspiration and visual pleasure !
