For the latest “where to meet,” we spoke with the atypical furrier Quentin Veron in his workshop in the 10th. Trainee-turned-boss of the atelier where he currently works, his passion for fur, springing from his suprizing love of animals (he grew up in an environment based around horse riding), has led him to do haute couture fashion shows during Paris Fashion Week and to dress notorious personalities like Pete Doherty, Vanessa Paradis, and Johnny Depp. He revealed to us the spots where he likes to hang out when he is not working on animal skins.

I always go there for a whisky with a book in hand. The bartender there is adorable and always knows the story behind every liquor or cocktail he serves. I’m not that talkative, but the tiny setting makes it very friendly. It feels like a luxurious place with a local cafe vibe.

Puce de Saint Ouen & vintage shops

Les Puces de Saint Ouen are perfect for inspiration and checking out old stuff. I especially like the taxidermy and furniture boutiques.
I don’t really have as much time to go shopping as I used to, but for second hand items I usually go to Guerissol, Noir Kennedy, and Free P Star.

La Petite Louise and the “fur neighborhood”

The workshop is located in the historic fur manufacturing area in the 10th district. When I walk in the street I feel like I know 80% of the people–it’s like a family. The landlord of the workshop lives just next door, in the street I see my suppliers or friends who are journalists.

A place I especially like in this area is la Petite Louise. Located in front of the town hall, it’s a real local bar where locals come to hang out, as well as bobos from Republique. It’s kind of my HQ — cafe the morning and beer at 7:30 pm on the terrace.

For parties, le Baron. Not too original but I have good times there and the signature cocktail is effective. After one of them your girlfriend is wasted and after three you are.

Tigre Club is now two years old. That means two years that rue Moliere has been the place to meet drunk tattooed girls and two years that Paris has had an indie rock club. To celebrate the occasion, they invited Pete Doherty and brought loads of Martini for a memorable night.

Peter Doherty Live at Le Tigre/ live report

“You never know what will happen but thatâ€™s part of the game,” those were my words which just might seem like a real prophecyÂ for every Peter gig.Â This time again, history overtook music. The crowd was here as usual, circling the club’s front-door for hours begging to get in. But history was inside, when Peter punched Adrien (club’s AD) in the nose over a misunderstanding. After this, the show might have been canceled, and Doherty locked himself backstage with his friends.

Around 1.30 am, the reconciliation had taken place and the true fans (or just the most patient) were awarded: the gig was happening. The wait had only heightened the excitement, and when Peter started to play with his acoustic guitar, the crowd gathered around the stage, prepared for a phenomenal show. But, unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be.

After a good start and an excellent rendition of the Libertines “Can’t Stand Me Now”– he knew what people wanted–Peter reminded us that he’s just a man, and that’s its really hard to sing and play guitar while high, wasted, fucked-up as hell (not necessarily at the same time). He was clearly not able to play an entire song–when just standing up is a problem, it seems pretty natural–or just to play in rhythm with the drummer, and though the 1st part band singer tried to help him (holding his guitar, etc.), his efforts were in vain.

Ultimately, I’ll take away from this evening the image of Peter leaving the club, smiling, running and jumping down the street in front of the smokers, all incredulous at his flippant fickleness.

Peter is in Paris for a few days–no need to introduce him, or just check The Sun (www.thesun.co.uk) for a refresher–and he picked our favorite rock club, Le Tigre, for an unexpected but hoped-for live show.
You never know what will happen but that’s part the game. Anyway, we’ll be there.
The on again-off again lead singer of the Libertines is also comingÂ with two interesting Parisian bands:
