For the latest “where to meet,” we spoke with the atypical furrier Quentin Veron in his workshop in the 10th. Trainee-turned-boss of the atelier where he currently works, his passion for fur, springing from his suprizing love of animals (he grew up in an environment based around horse riding), has led him to do haute couture fashion shows during Paris Fashion Week and to dress notorious personalities like Pete Doherty, Vanessa Paradis, and Johnny Depp. He revealed to us the spots where he likes to hang out when he is not working on animal skins.

http://www.quentinveron.com / Facebook Page

Quentin Veron (credit: Candy Kennedy)

Stolly’s

I like to spend time there with my musician friends. It successfully combines the pub vibe and small local dive bar vibe in a discrete street.

Stolly’s /16 rue Cloche-Perce / 75004 / metro Saint Paul

Bar Hemingway

I always go there for a whisky with a book in hand. The bartender there is adorable and always knows the story behind every liquor or cocktail he serves. I’m not that talkative, but the tiny setting makes it very friendly. It feels like a luxurious place with a local cafe vibe.

Bar Hemingway / 15, Place Vendôme,75001 Paris

Puce de Saint Ouen & vintage shops

Les Puces de Saint Ouen are perfect for inspiration and checking out old stuff. I especially like the taxidermy and furniture boutiques.
I don’t really have as much time to go shopping as I used to, but for second hand items I usually go to Guerissol, Noir Kennedy, and Free P Star.

Les Puces de Saint Ouen /Open every Saturday, Sunday, Monday /http://marcheauxpuces-saintouen.com/1.aspx
Guerrisol / 31 avenue de Clichy / La Fourche
Free P Star / 8 Rue Ste Croix la Bretonnerie  75004 / metro: Saint Paul

Guerrisol

Square Georges-Cain

Located just in front l’Institut Suédois, I go there for a walk, get some fresh air and chill. During the summer I’m there every weekend.

Square Georges-Cain / Rue Payenne 75003 / Metro: Chemin Vert

Square Georges-Cain

La Petite Louise and the “fur neighborhood”

The workshop is located in the historic fur manufacturing area in the 10th district. When I walk in the street I feel like I know 80% of the people–it’s like a family. The landlord of the workshop lives just next door, in the street I see my suppliers or friends who are journalists.

A place I especially like in this area is la Petite Louise. Located in front of the town hall, it’s a real local bar where locals come to hang out, as well as bobos from Republique. It’s kind of my HQ — cafe the morning and beer at 7:30 pm on the terrace.

La Petite Louise / 54 rue du Château d’eau, 75010 / Metro: Chateau d’eau

Le Baron

For parties, le Baron. Not too original but I have good times there and the signature cocktail is effective. After one of them your girlfriend is wasted and after three you are.

Le Baron /Â 6, avenue Marceau / metro: Alma Marceau

He’s young, talented, he became fashion editors’ pet in less than a year and is of all the best parties during Fashion Week. Simon Porte Jacquemus is what you could call an up-and-coming designer. Clean cuts, raw fabrics, his clothes reflects his vision of a strong and independant woman, and after putting his girls in a factory, he brought parisian model Caroline de Maigret in the middle of a kennel to present his Spring Summer 2012 collection. So it seems like there is something about Simon and awkward places. Is it the same for his favorite spots in Paris ? Let’s find out.

http://jacquemus.com

Simon Porte Jacquemus

My favorite place in Paris happens to be my own flat. I live at La Fourche, so basically, most of the places I hang are around this area. I don’t necessarily go outside my confort zone.

Les puces de st Ouen

If I could spend some money on furnishing my flat, I’ll definitely splurge there. I’m not into the design part of it, but there are many different styles, you can find cool stuff, old pearls, ancient granny-style dresses, it is very inspirational. And I like the atmosphere, the mix of people.

Open every Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

http://marcheauxpuces-saintouen.com/1.aspx

Guerrisol

I don’t like vintage, I don’t like the retro aspect of it BUT, I like finding old pieces that have a very modern look, either the cut or the fabric. I’m very into big chunky knits, sweaters, that I can even use as a pattern for pieces of my own collection. And I like buying stuff there for my girl friends, even if they don’t really wear them « *sigh* »…

19 avenue de Clichy, 75009 Paris

01 40 08 03 00 () ‎

Guerrisol

Bazaars from avenue de St Ouen

I’m fascinated by 99 cents stores. There’s a profusion of useless stuff there that really intrigues me. It’s like a cheap cabinet of curiosities.

Bazars

Bar St Michel

It really doesn’t have anything special to it, but it’s my local bar. I usually go there before going out, to get some Pastis.

13 avenue de Saint Ouen, 75018 Paris

Bar StMichel

Self Madeleine

It’s kind of weird because it’s a self-service restaurant, you eat for really cheap, it’s like school cafeteria, but there is this woman there, who owns the place, and she is so concerned about me everytime I come, she goes like « oh my dear, come, come, I’m gonna feed you ». She’s so sweet.
I often go there to eat for lunch, it’s fast and simple but feels good.

At Ten Days In Paris, we love vintage. We have closets full of useless tennis cardigans, sneakers with the most horrible smell ever, Hawaiian shirts and beach party t-shirts. Here is a selection of some of our favorite vintage shops.

Guerissol:

Located in Barbes, a less glamourous area of Paris, Guerrisol is the best place to waste an afternoon. This very large shop is always packed with neighborhood locals and hipsters (the guys from Justice are often there), even if most of the clothes are unwearable by someone with a minimum of taste. The clothes are so cheap and there is so much choice that after 3 hours you will find yourself buying one new coat and 3 new pairs of shoes.

Adress: 19 avenue de Clichy

Guerrisol

Killiwatch

If you feel too lazy to spend an afternoon digging for a valuable t-shirt at Guerissol, you should definitely go to Killiwatch. There’s a lot of variety as well, but this time the shop is located in the trendier area of Etienne Marcel and you’ll find only selected clothes ordered by type and by size. The clothes can be a bit overpriced.

Adress: 64 rue Tiquetonne

See also: Hippy Market, Killiwatch’s little brother with an hippy twist

Killiwatch

Noir Kennedy

Selection of vintage clothes perfect for looking like a British rocker: band t-shirts, perfectos and cardigans. This boutiuqe in le Marais is heaven for Peter Doherty wannabes.

Adress: 12 rue du roi de Sicile, metro: Saint Paul

Noir Kennedy

Rags & Vertige

This shop next to Beaubourg has a good, large selection of typical vintage clothes: Burberry trench coats, Hawaiian shirts and teddys. A typical place to get a typical hipster outfit.

adress: 83 rue Saint Martin Paris

Losing Today

Run by the owners of Noir Kennedy, except that instead of being black, the walls of the boutique are white and instead of being in the south of le Marais it’s in the north of le Marais. The clothes are cool and it’s just in front of le Progrès. Can we ask for more?

Adress: 14 rue de Bretagne

Losing Today
